It is also the surface that takes the most punishment and gets the least attention.
A driveway sits exposed to everything at once. Sun, rain, oil drips, tyre rubber, garden run off, leaf staining and constant vehicle weight. Concrete is porous, so all of that soaks in rather than sitting on top. Over a few years the surface goes from clean and even to a patchy mix of grey, black and green that most people assume is permanent.
It usually is not. Most Brisbane driveways clean back far better than the owner expects, because the staining is sitting in the top layer of the concrete rather than being part of it. What matters is what happens afterwards. A cleaned and unsealed driveway is bare porous concrete that will look exactly the same again within two years. Sealing is what makes the result last.

The water test is the quick one. Pour some water on the driveway. If it beads or sits on top, the seal is still working. If it soaks straight in and turns the concrete dark, the surface is porous and every stain that lands on it from now on is going in rather than staying on top.
Worth deciding before you book, because the price difference is real and so is the difference in how long the result lasts.

Every oil drip, every tyre mark and every bit of organic matter that lands on it from that day goes straight in. Most unsealed driveways are noticeably stained again inside two years, and you pay for the cleaning a second time.
